When favoritism rears its ugly head, envy, jealousy, covetous, and a host of many other ‘feelings’ arise; once again anger emerges.
Unfortunately age does not eliminate the possibility of sibling rivalry. I know people today, that are refusing to speak to their siblings because they envied them, or resented them due to their good fortune, or disagreement with a parent or another sibling. Age does not matter! People do not mature in character without the instruction of God within their lives.
It is most difficult to understand; but people have the desire to feel ’empowered’. Their attitude, “I’ll show them! I shun them !” Well, this is backward thinking if there ever was one! How can any-one who is shunned feel what you are feeling? The fact of the matter is, ‘evil starts in the mind’! First a thought takes form and then, eventual action arises! This is why it is so imperative to become spiritual. For without prayer anything goes! The excuses take form and the next thing is the ‘hate’. Hate can grow into a poison that kills! Both parties, will lose! Who wins? Satan wins! He has taken control of your happiness. That is who He is.
Sometimes forgiving is so far from the conscious mind that only the LORD can help us get beyond ourselves! From being very small, and being picked on at school, to being eliminated from the ‘high shool cliques’, to turned down for a date or passed over for that promotion at work. All circumstances can foster ill will. The heart is why we must forgive. For love grows in the heart, and if the heart is hardened, the heart can not experience love. Without love, we are not living!
God is aware of all things! He waits to be called upon!
Book of Romans Chapter 12 verses 17-21
17)”Never repay injury with injury. See that your conduct is honorable in the eyes of all. 18)If possible, live peaceably with everyone. 19)Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; leave that to God’s wrath, for it is written: “‘vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says the Lord, ” 20)But “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsy, give him something to drink; by doing this you will heap burning coals upon his head.” 21)Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.”
Jesus unwelcome: ‘ Samaritan Inhospitality’: Book of Luke: Chapter 9 verses53-56
53) …”but the Samaritans would not welcome him because he was on his way to Jerusalem. 54)When his disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, would you not have us call down fire from heaven to destroy them?” 55) He turned toward them only to reprimand them. 56)They set off for another town.”
